▍Introduction
Yulan was so named because the Han people established sawmills here and sawmilling sounds like “helan” in the Atayal language. Yulan is located at the 101 km distance marker on Provincial Highway No. 7, leading to Yilan City, Luodong Township, Taoyuan County and Lishan, respectively. Yulan faces the wide-open valley of Lanyang Creek, with its back against Southern Chungtoumu Mountain to the north, surrounded by tea gardens and high mountains. The Yulan area is in the east corner of the Xue Mountain Range with quite regular mountain terrains which drop to heights of about 150 meters. There is a lot of rolling and gentle land in the mountainside and watershed areas, and often mists here, which is suitable for the growth of tea trees, mainly including Chin-Shin-Oolong, Jhinhsuan, and Cuiyu. The tea trees planted there are dark green, and the tea appears golden and a bright liquor color with full-bodied aroma. It tastes sweet with a rich flavor that is evocative and unforgettable for people. The tea is named “Yulan Tea” for its place of origin, “Yulan.”

Provincial Highway No. 7 extends along the banks of Lanyang Creek, is surrounded by mountains, rivers and green tea gardens, and travelers can enjoy beautiful picturesque scenery. Overlooking the Lanyang plain from Lanxin Pavilion, people feel refreshed and comfortable, breathing a sigh as Mencius says “the kingdom becomes smaller on the top of Tai mountain.” The sight of Guishan Island in the distance is vivid, and it is like the guardian of the Lanyang plain. In Yulan, you may enjoy star counting at Southern Chungtoumu Mountain at night, with no light pollution, a starry sky and probably meteors suddenly dashing across the sky. With little light nearby, the night scene of Lanyang plain and the stars in the sky seem to reflect with each other so that no one can get rid of it. This area provides not only “Yulan Tea” with its unique aroma, but also featured tea meals that attract people’s appetites. The food materials are processed by tea that makes each dish made look, smell and taste good, and most important, makes customers eat safely and healthily. Tea jelly, tea-baked eggs, and “A-Jin’s Kueh (Taiwanese style rice cake)” with a pleasant fragrance and chewy and soft are all mouth-watering. There are also experience activities, such as Hakka Lei tea, tea plucking or automatic tea making, available for getting close to nature.
